As the pandemic reaches a critical period in our province, we are closely monitoring developments around COVID-19 and following public health authority recommendations, advisories and directions as to policies regarding public use of cultural and recreation facilities at this time.
All recreation programs have been cancelled until further notice (to be reassessed May 30). Some fitness instructors are providing access to online classes through their own websites and we are working to share and develop as many “at-home” activities as possible. Please continue to visit our website and Facebook page for further updates as more online/physical distanced program options are released in the coming weeks.

The following recreation facilities remain closed until further notice:

          • Rotary Park Playground
          • Tots & Tykes Playground (Community Park)
          • Sports Fields (Community Park)
          • Tennis and Pickleball Courts
          • Kinsmen Park Playground
          • Small Wheels Park (Lions Park)
          • Lion’s Park Playground
          • Off -Leash Dog Park (Lions Park)
          • Oliver Community Centre & Weight Room
          • Recreation Administration Office

Oliver parks, green spaces and trails remain open at this time to provide an opportunity to care for pets, get some exercise and connect with nature. Those returning to Canada from wintering down south or vacationing should be self-isolating at home for the recommended 14 days before visiting any park facilities. Physical distancing (minimum of 6.5ft or 2m) must be maintained at all times. Visitors must maintain strong hand hygiene and please do not visit parks if you or anyone you are close with is feeling unwell or has been exposed to COVID-19.

We know it’s hard to stay inside and not go out to play or participate in the programs and sports that make you feel happy and connected – we feel it too. The BC Health Minister’s current orders regarding recreation facilities and group gatherings ends on May 30, 2020. As soon as we are able to implement a recreation recovery plan (even with some restrictions) we will communicate this immediately as we know how important physical activity and social connectedness is to overall health and can’t wait to see our patrons back when safe to do so. The patience and compliance we demonstrate now will directly impact how soon we can re-establish our recreation facilities and programs.

Recreation team members are here to answer your phone calls and assist you through this challenging time. Weight Room memberships and fitness/yoga class passes that have been purchased can be suspended until reinstated at the request of the pass holder without any penalty or loss to the pass holder. We are still taking registrations online and over the phone for summer camps and swimming lessons set for July and August. While all program start dates and details will be reviewed in June and are subject to change, the department is prepared to issue credits to account or full refunds for future registered programs and services that need to be cancelled or postponed due to pandemic exposure control measures.

Our website https:// and Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/OliverParksandRecreation/ will be updated regularly with any additional actions we are implementing to keep you safe, as well as any changes to our programming and facility schedules.
Thank you on behalf of Oliver Parks and Recreation to all of the front line workers in health care, the food sector, emergency services and those supporting our most vulnerable populations during this unprecedented time. Our thoughts are with you.

          Stay safe,
The Oliver Parks and Recreation Team
